Grease Help

I looked on the archives and on Bac. I guess I am too thick. I have a
gease fitting on the front wheel of my 1980 Sundowner but the mains
only have what looks like a button on the knee facing the front of the
aircraft and on the other end behind the knee below the donuts is a
cotter pin. Is this where the grease goes with the needle you all have
been talking about? Also, can this pin be removed without jacking the
plane at under the wings? Please someone clarify the proceedure. Also
where do I get the needle and what size? My A&P have never worked on
Sundowners so we are confused? We just completed the annual but I do
not want to proceed until I get this info. I am a fairly new owner and
have not greased the mains.............they need it according to what
has been posted. Thanks

Nope, think that's how to remove the pin & quite sure the wing has to
be jacked to remove it. If there is no visible typiclal, (or one that
is more familiar) nipple style zerk fitting on one end (or both?) of
the knee pin, as others mentioned could be that you instead have a
flush zerk (tiny hole) that requires a needle on the grease gun to
lubriplate the pin.

Even If you have these, they may not accepts grease & could be
plugged up from old hardened grease requiring re & re.

Could even be a worse case scenarion & pins are solid (for some
reason) with no fittings (but unlikely). If so, gotta come out to lube
em & that'd be the time to change em to newer tupes that can be lubed
without removal & jacking of wing (PITA)

BTW, is that front wheel pin zerk(s) on the end(s), or in the middle
front of the pin somewnere..Jon
