Trim tab question

I have a 1980 Sundowner. I noticed after landing that the trim
indicator is more toward the nose down position and the actual trim
tab on the stabilitor is slighlty in the down position as well. In
fact the only way I can get the tab nearly level with the stabilitor
on the ground is to move the trim wheel full foward. Plan flies fine
but did not know is this is normal. Looks like the tab only moves
level to down............never up in reference to the stabilitor.

The trim tab is geared and does not move at the same rate as the
stabilator. Thus, depending on the position of the trim wheel and the
position of the stabilizer, the trim tab can vary widely.

Try it. Move the stab up and down by hand, and see the trim tab move
relative to the stab.

You may in fact have an out of adjustment issue, but it MIGHT only be an
optical illusion, and the tab is right where its supposed to be.

Do a BAC search on "play in elevator trim", or "anti servo tab". Lots of info there that will explain all this and more.
