For those who have replaced there hoses lately, did anyone replace with
Teflon type? I understand that our aircraft needs a field approval. My
old hoses which are ten years old, and the last five years I have always
asked my inspectors if they felt they should be changed, they checked all
the hoses and told me that they felt very pliable, well I am not going to
be second guessing their condition next annual, I want the piece of mind, so
I want to change all hoses to the Teflon which understand has a longer shelf
life as well as expectancy on the plane. I had all my old hoses when I
installed new had them all fire sleeved which I think has kept them from any
direct heat, but also unable to look at all the hoses.

By the way after spending time removing my mag and a few other accessories
to verify where a noise was coming from, it turned out to be the vacuum
pump, a bushing was turning in the race creating a low howl during low RPM
and increase to a loud squealing sound when increasing the rpm. The pump
only had five hundred hours on it, it was a sigmatek, the vanes looked fine,
but I ended up replacing with a Rapco pump.

Rod, are you a BAC member now? If you do a BAC search on "Teflon hoses" (without the quotes), you'll find an extensive FAQ that addresses this topic. I like the Teflon hoses, especially with the integral extruded firesleeving, and think that they are worth the relatively small extra cost. If you are buying a complete engine compartment set, and can send in your old hoses for matching, I might be able to get you a small discount. Precision Hose Technologies can furnish sets based on the Beech standard hoses, if you are certain that everything is original; I just prefer having the originals matched to make sure.
