Description:
Here is a rare find. It is the exterior 1040BCH door handle, superseding under PN 105-420018-17, used on all the earlier 19/23/24s, prior to the Hartwell handles and latches. It was also used on most of the Duchess airframes, as well as on all the 19/23/24 from 1978 onward (on the two front cabin doors). The older airframe applicability is:

- Beech Sport Model 19 SN MB001 through MB616

- Beech Musketeer-Sundowner Model 23 SN M0001 through M1518

- Beech Musketeer Super Model 23-24 SN MA001 through MA368

- Beech Sierra Model 24 SN MC002 through MC180

As noted, this latch was also used on the two front cabin doors on many of the airframes from 1978 onward. This is contrary to what is shown in the parts books for some of these later planes, as they are shown as having the Hartwell H2532-13 on all three doors. They actually have the Hartwell only on the baggage area door.

The exterior handle assembly includes the Nickel-plated all-metal exterior handle housing, and the aluminum handle itself. These do not come with a lock cylinder; I inserted a cylinder for photo purposes. You transfer your old one, or you can buy a new one from my other parts listings.

These are genuine Beech parts, in the original packaging, with the Form 8130. They have a somewhat better fit and finish than the Wag-Aero look-alikes. They also have some subtle differences in the locking slide bar design. Since they were made by the same company, I suspect that the differences in the WA handle are there to prevent infringing on the Beech design. The genuine Beech design has a better capture area for the drive pin on the lock cylinder. Also please note that I usually make some minor adjustments to the handles to improve function and lifespan, compared to the way that they come. An early Beech drawing included these small changes, but they fell out of production somewhere along the way. If not incorporated (for example), the handle wont fully return to the nested position until the door is pushed shut.

I only have one of these assemblies left. I can offer to sell it with a lock that matches your original ignition key for an additional $25 extra. You would need to send me a copy of your key, for the re-slotting and re-keying option.

Also, please note: If you will be installing this on a 1978 or later 23, 24R, or 76, it will require two added guide bushings. They are on the originals, but not the replacements. Without the bushings, the transfer bar inside the latch wont properly operate the bolt. I have to charge $30 to add the bushings. You can tell whether they are needed by looking at your old removed handle. If you see two large swaged washers on the mount posts, you need the bushings.

As usual, I have no idea whether Ill ever see new ones again. Beech has rarely restocked this type of part, despite projected dates in their system. When faced with a critical owner need, they have some made at a horrendous price (and a horrendous lead time). If you are restoring one of these planes, here is probably your one-and-only chance at an all-new Beech door latch with the nice plating. My BAC price is $200 each, shipping and handling included. When Beech last sold these, however long ago that was (1998?), they were $190. They are unlikely to stock them again, and if they did, you can imagine what they would cost. The currently available Hartwell unit, for the other models, costs $550 for the outside handle. Please note: this is a factory Beech part with an 8130; not an aftermarket copy.
