Boston Marathon Monday April 15, 2019. See Everything!

See every runner. See the winner race by. See the entire course.
See from the air. See from the ground. Lunch with your friends.

We meet in the air for this annual event.
Be at 1,400' over Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
Look out for banner tows at your altitude.
Keep your eyes open because there are aircraft to
your right, left, above and below - only feet away.
Travel in a counterclockwise circle with them.
Expect a beehive of activity with helicopters everywhere.
    Fly over the marathon 027.jpg
Staggered race starts so pick the time you like.
After watching the start from altitude we fly the race course until
we get to the edge of the Boston Class Bravo. Then we
fly along the north side of the course and depart to
Norwood Airport (KOWD) to land and transfer to
the BAC Luxury SUV for a ride to the race
    halfway point in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
There we set up chairs and wait for the front runners
to pass by a few minutes later. While there
we eat the sandwiches each of us has brought with us.
After 12,000 to 15,000 runners have passed by we
reverse our journey and get our airplanes for a
    fight home.
If you are planning to join us email me at
    mediareps@aol.com
    for enough-chairs reasons.

This may turn into a washout.
Check weather at Bedford, Massachusetts (KBED) or Boston (KBOS) or Providence, Rhode Island (KPVD).

At least if you don’t get to fly you could go to the Red Sox Game

Watch the Boston Marathon from the ground or on TV or rent the movie "Patriots Day".
The weather will be too wet and low for safe enjoyable flight.

See you May 10th in Frederick, MD.

As predicted... weather here around Boston at 7:00am is rainy with gusty wind.
Ceilings this morning are low and visibility poor. Thunder and lightening overhead.
Too make things more interesting there is a brand new Security Temporary Flight Restriction over Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
It's not very wide and only up to 1,000' AGL. I have never seen a TFR here. You have got to be 1,000' or more over a crowd (30,000) anyway.
We would have been at 1,400' for our counterclockwise flight but a TFR adds complexity to the eclectic mix. The race start is about 200' MSL.
We will try to Fly Over The Boston Marathon again in 2020.

Beech Aero Club actually did make it to the Boston Marathon.

No flying opportunities were available at any part of the day on Monday. Low clouds and a TFR made staying legal difficult.

However, one BAC member (me) did drive to our traditional favorite spot and enjoyed the two hours of good weather.
