    BBQ

If your travel takes you over NW South Carolina (Piedmont Region, the area
bordered by Greenville, Spartanburg, Greenwood, and Columbia), I can
recommend a stop at Laurens County (34A). Cheaper fuel than many, and a
decent runway, ramp, and FBO building (it's now my home base). The FBO
building is usually open from 0900-1800 weekdays, and 1200-1800 on weekends
(if I remember right). Night-time lighting, and PAPIs. If you get in
after-hours, and I am in town, you can call me for transportation.

There is a country BBQ place about two miles East down the airport road,
named 'Hickory Hills BBQ'. It is only open Thursday through Saturday (from
lunch through dinner). It is buffet style. All you can eat, including
drink and soft-serve ice cream, for $7.50. That's not a misprint. All the
BBQ chicken, BBQ pork ribs, pulled pork, country 'hash', chicken livers,
pork rinds, bread, and about 16 country side items, that you can eat. The
place isn't fancy, but it is decent and well-run. When was the last time
you got all the real smoked BBQ pork ribs you could hold, for $7.50,
including drink and tax? Most of their business is from high-volume
catering, hence the partial public week availability.

Email me if you are coming through, and I'll take you to lunch or dinner
    there.

    Folks,

I'm looking for some good BBQ that I can find on the field or close to
it. NC, SC, KY, WV and VA are all viable candidates.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    regards,

    RJF
