    [musketeermail] IFR Checkride

If I were you I would first contact the other members of the BAC. We have several instructors listed there, and I have seen a number of offers floating around for free checkrides to members. Check under 'Technical", then 'CFI List'.

Wow, I got my rating about 2 years ago and it only cost $250 for the
checkride. I am fortunate enough to know several CFII instructors that I do favors for occasionally so when I need the flight review I get it done for little or nothing (last month it was nothing). Maybe you should look into joining a flight instructors group (you can do that and it counts toward your safety training) and hopefully you can save money as well as make friends.

    Just a suggestion,

Are we talking about IFR PROFICIENCY RIDE OR AIRPLANE CERT (Static/Pitot
    Transponder Check) ?

My Airplane cert runs about $250 each time which has been consistant.

I keep IFR proficient but if I fell lax I'd either do the WINGS route or
just have an instructor go for a couple of hrs which cost less than $100 !

*** I got the rating a few years ago. Am finding it almost impossible to
keep legally current. So far, I've just punted and hired an instructor
    every 6 months.

I find it a great excuse to go fly.
Every 3 months I do 3 approaches and a hold. We have 3 good airports near
mine to do it and I get it done in 1.5 hrs. Usually go with another pilot
and in 2 hrs we BOTH can get them done.
Also I keep night current so that's 3 TOL to Fullstop at night. I usually go
to another a/p for that too since ours is small and deer are sometime an
    issue.
That keeps me flying 2 out of every 3 months.
Then, add a trip somewhere. (Like to see Mike at the end of this month or
the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Williamsburg next week).
Totals about 50-80 hrs / year

*** Not bad. I try to make flying part of my business. We own a couple
of apartment complexes, one in Fresno ( 186 miles ) the other in Stockton
( 51 miles ). I have a car positioned in Fresno, so I can fly there to
take care of my property. Tomorrow, we're going to position another car
    in Stockton.
