Just ordered mx170c need advice on installing

I ordered the mx170c because my kx175b is slightly out of alignment and
is picking up FM radio. What is the legality of installing it myself as
well as signing off the log book there is a 1.9 pound difference
between the 2 radios . I will be doing the drop in replacement so now
wiring is necessary thanks all Charles

They are a slide in replacement, and per FAR 43 Appendix A subparagraph (c)
you can remove and replace slide in radios.

The catch (there is ALWAYS a catch, isn't there?) is that you can not
update the installed equipment list and the W&B paperwork with out an
Airframe certificate (or at least an Airframe certificate to sign off your
work). Some FAA offices want a 337 (just the form, NOT a field approval)
completed and submitted for all avionics equipment installed that is not on
    the original factory option list.

This is a 10 minute exercise (less with a computer), but requires an IA to
sign block 7 of the form. So you are probably going to have to pay someone
an hour's labor to compute your W&B and sign the 337. Still WAY cheaper
than any avionics install that requires wiring changes.
