    Fuel Flow Install

I'm in the process of installing an EI fuel flow and am confused
about the fuel system lines firewall forward.

My plane, a B23 Lycoming 180 carbureted, has a line from the firewall
to the engine mounted fuel pump and then from the engine mounted fuel
pump to the carburetor and then there is another hose from the top or
back of the carburetor to the firewall (unfiresleaved???) - Is this a
return line and would I need a differential transducer for this
    application.

Thanks for any help - just trying to get all my ducks in a row.

The line from the carburetor to the firewall is the fuel pressure line to
    the gauge.

It should have a fitting at the carburetor with a restrictor orifice (about
0.040") to prevent loss of fuel should the line/gauge break.

Most fuel flow devices want to be after the mechanical pump, and they also
specify that they should be mounted so that the fuel flows UPHILL to the
carburetor, so that any bubbles in the line won't remain in the flow
turbine. (As would happen in the case where the transducer is located in a
loop of Stratoflex hose ABOVE the level of the carburetor and/or
    mechanical pump.)

Consult your STC instructions for the approved mounting locations.

    Fuel Flow Install

I had an EI FP-5 Fuel Flow installed on my skipper this month. Great device and a lot of information contained in one unit. The transducer that comes with the unit (FL-60, red cube) is good for carburated engines up to 350 HP. EI's web site www.buy-EI.com has installation and operational manuals to download that can answer questions on location, etc. Additional expenses on the install were the purchase of "fire sleve" fuel lines cut to length to account for placing the transducer in the circut and additional "fire sleve" material to wrap the transducer IAW the instructions. It took a little work to get right fuel feed angle and not have any sharp bends in the line (not much room under the hood of a skipper). In the end, it was worth the effort.
