Volt meter and static in the Radios

I have maybe two issues. One is static in the radios, which is RPM driven. Meaning that when the RPM is about 1800 of less no static, the other is Volt meter. Once in a while the meter goes full tilt from max plus to max minus. I can turn on a landing light and it works normal. As soon as I turn it off it goes back to full positive to full - again and then back and forth and back and forth. After tuning on the landing light for a while it will work normal again.

I don't know if the two are one of the same problems or two different ones.

Bob, any chance you have seen this before? Or have any idea what to look for first?

    Thanks

    Ron

Volt meter and static in the Radios

I think first off, you should go through and checkout the field circuit
of the alternator system, from the breaker, through the switch and
voltage regulator and alternator. I've had a broken field wire create
all kinds of static in my intercom before. Also another cause of the
static could be a bad capacitor in one of the magnetos. But the odd
charging indications could be an intermittent connection problem in the
wiring. Don't be afraid to give a light tug on the wiring near the
terminals, if it pulls out, it wasn't a good connection anyway. Dirty
    connections also cause ammeter wandering.
