    Vortex Generators

    Hello All:

Does anyone have some numbers on the pressure drag or total drag changes on a
B19 that is being added or decrased by these VG's? From a basic review of
vortex generators I can imagine Vortex Generators that if placed properly will
be able to reduce Total Drag in specific configurations and speciically
cruise.... On My B19 I can't see how much and in either direction or if it would be
relevant. But none the less it could

I will be installing these because if my 104 kts at 7500ft (2600 RPM) goes
down to 102 kts in cruise it will make no difference to me but the climb out
and landing speeds will help at many small fields around me...

If I can climb to 7500 or 9500 quicker the wind will make up for the lost
    knot or two

I am installing these next week (Wed/Thur) and having my prop balanced...

So I will soon be adding my own data on these...

    I will post all data I find with 23964 / mb-828

    thanks in advance

I have done many drag polers and test and I suggest you Try this.

I believe that the Best Glide for the aircraft is 90 mph. So this will be
    your target speed.

Before the Mod, fly the aircraft to approx. 4000ft AGL. Trim the aircraft
for a power off glide of 70 mph throttle all the way back. Have a co-pilot
set a GPS onboard that has a trip odometer and set it for 0. Make sure you
fly 90 to the wind and start your glide fir approx 2,000 feet and read the
GPS for the distance covered. This will give you the glide ratio for that
    speed.

Now, climb back up to 4000 AGL, turn 180 and do it again. This will correct
for any wind. Make sure you fly a HEADING and not a track. Do not correct
    for wind drift.

Now repeat this same test for 80 MPH, 90 MPH and 100 MPH. See if the best
glide ratio really is 90 MPH. I found in my sport it is around 85 MPH.

Now after you have the mod done, go do the same tests and see what the new
ratio is. I bet you will see a major difference in the glide ratio which
means that drag has been reduced.

Jeff, know what else would be helpful? How many extra
feet do you get at the best glide than at other
    speeds?
