Hurt 1975 Sundowner -- possibly parting out

    Mike,

Congratulations on a "successful" landing! I'm very glad to hear that
all of you are OK. And I am distressed to hear that you lost your
aircraft. You seem to be taking this in the only logical spirit, that
of the priorities of survival, personnel concerns, and then mechanical. I
would only hope that I could do the same.

When all the dust settles (from the photo, looks like a lot of dust too)
could you write up the circumstances and advice for us MM'rs and BAC'rs?

    Stay safe, friend,

I concur with Stephen Cote: Good job getting it on the ground.
I live in Northern Nevada, and I was trying to recognize the mountains in the picture, but was unable.
    Where did this occur?

    Hi Gang,

After an exciting (but losing) fight with some strong mountain
downdrafts, my two passengers and I were the proud survivors of an
off-airport landing in inhospitable terrain in northern Nevada.

Due to a possible insurance glitch, I may be the owner of the remains
of the aircraft, and may be selling this project whole or parting out
    my beloved C23.

    Damage includes:

    Firewall stress :/
Left wing heavy damage, but small nonstructural parts should be ok
(fuel cap, level float, wingtip, pitot, lights, gear, etc)
Engine (~1000SMOH) was shut off at landing -- possibly it will not
need a prop-strike teardown (although you should probably consider one
anyway to be safe) - prop has one tip bent.

Cabin, empennage, tail all perfectly intact. Light damage to flaps and
skin on right wing. This beech had the factory spin kit installed.

And the avionics available now for parting are:

Full IFR kit, king silver crown:
TKM MX170C (literally 4 days SNEW)
    King KA-20
    KX170B
    KI-208/209
    KR-76 ADF
Garmin GTX327 Transponder (with ACK-300 encoder -- both 2 yrs SNEW)
    A sigtronics SCI-4S with 4 flushmount jacks and mp3 player input (7
days SNEW -- awesome stereo xcom)
    ELT works!

    all trays and wiring available.

My gear donuts are in great shape. Tons of serviceable parts
available. 50 SNEW on slick mags with REM-37BY plugs, kelly
lightweight starter, 30 SNEW on alternator, etc etc etc.

Email me for any specifics, or if you'd be interested in the project
as a whole (whole meaning every piece was available and working
pre-impact) -- it will take me a week or two to stop the paperwork and
start pondering the scope of everything. Or we'll figure out
insurance and I'll email a "sorry, nevermind" privately.

Also, haha, will consider partial trade for a turbo bonanza

    Best,

    - Mike

    Thank God you're all okay!

I agree with Steve. I'd love to hear details (especially insurance
related) when you're able to discuss such things - especially if it's the
same insurance many of us have thru BAC connections... what kind of "glitch"
we all should be aware of, or to avoid, etc. etc.

But the main thing is, great job getting down without injury. Share all with
us when you can, if you care to.

Take care and buy a Lotto ticket..

IMO, no doubt, it is a prop strike teardown scenario.
