    Lycoming Fuel Pump SB Update

    Lycoming mailed out the updated SB #548A last week, and it was waiting
    patiently in the mail when I arrived home from a week in Memphis working on
    a couple planes.

    #548A is updating the list of mechanical fuel pumps that are to be replaced
    for an unspecified problem with Lycoming's manufacturing.

    The SB specifically addresses New and Reman/OH engines from Lycoming during
    the period Feb 2000 to Sep 2005, and those pumps sold as spares between Feb
    22, 2000 and Sep 15, 2005 (yes, that is later this week...).

    It applies to ALL the O-320 and O-360 engines in the Beech Singles fleet if
    the engine or pump was replaced during the specified timeframe.

    The Pump P/N are: LW-15399, LW-15472, LW-15473, and LW 16335.
    You MUST check the date code on the pump and if in the affected range,
    replace it with a new pump that is outside the range.

    Stamped on the flange of the pump is the P/N followed by a 4 digit Date
    Code, which is in the format of Week/Year (WWYY).

    If the first 5 digits are any of the pump numbers listed above, and the
    6th-9th digits are: 0700, 0800, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1800,
    2000, 2100, 2200, 2300, 2400, 2800, 2900, 3000, 3100, 3200, 3300, 3400,
    3500, 3600, 3700, 3800, 3900, 4000, 4100, 4200, 4300, 4400, 4600, 4700,
    4800, 4900, 5000, 5100, 5200, 0101, 0201, 0301, 0401, the pump is in the
    affected range and MUST be replaced.

    For those under warranty, there is a labor allowance, and the pump can be
    returned for a warranty claim. It would appear that those out of the
    Lycoming warranty are responsible for their own expenses of replacement.

    Lycoming Fuel Pump SB Update

    The SB text does call out IO-360 along with several other models. (See
    4th line of "Models Affected" in the text.) Here is a link to the SB:

    I'd recommend getting the date stamp on yours checked immediately.
