bottom of door scrapes wing but fit looks good?

Does anyone else's door contact the wing when swung open?

    Hi Kerry -

My Pilot-side door does too - Mike R thinks the piano hinge might have pulled

loose from the rivets (like elongated holes) and I can see more hinge on that

side than the other - getting ready to work on it. Will see what's up!

I'm hoping this can be fixed w/o changing the hinge - Mike and Bob have written

LOTS about the different kinds of Piano Hinge, and about how the new stuff from

    Raytheon is 'junque.'

*** I might suggest the following procedure - Mike and Bob to correct if I'm
    "full of it":

Drill out the enlongated holes in the hinge to the smallest size that gets
them completely round. Chop off a piece of rivet of the appropriate diameter
to exactly fit in the hole. The piece of rivet should be a bit longer than
the thickness of the metal. Squeeze the piece of rivet into the hole with
a rivet squeezer. Drill a new hole in the exact right place through the rivet.
You will need to add a doubler over the hinge leaf so that the metal you added
inside the hinge leaf can't pop out.

This is definitely in the category of "last resorts" and should only be
considered if you can't find the appropriate hinge.

Mine does too. At my last annual my A&P wanted to change the hinge but I
told him the door fit to well, the hinge was not loose, just missing the
bottom plate and the wing scrape is only when loaded to within 100 lbs of
gross. I also didn't want to have to repaint a good paint job.

Does the wing spar actually bend that much just from loading? - or are your
attach bolts loose? I never see any change in the clearance between the
door & the wing, regardless of the load.
