AFAIK, the external OAT is only required for IFR under part 135 and 121
ops, not for part 91. A nice thing to have to compute Density Altitude and
be aware of reaching the freezing point, etc.

Yes, its listed in the Beech Equipment listing as "optional". Only a
logbook entry is required to show that it is not installed, and you'll need
to update the W&B and the associated listing of installed equipment to show
    that its removed.

You only need to file the 337 for your JPI monitor to show that the STC
approving the JPI was complied with. It really has little to do with the
thermometer. You;'d want to make the log entry for installing an add-on
thermometer to the JPI, but I don't think an additional 337 is required,
once you have completed the paperwork for the JPI, if you just want to add
an optional component to the original installation.

    Paul,

I don't think a 337 is required. The 337 is for "Major Repairs and
Alterations." I'm thinking it isn't necessary here.

As for thermometers, I tried the low drag, plastic unit from Questair
and was not totally happy. It always seemed to read higher temps than
I felt was correct. Perhaps my installation job allowed interior air
to leak around the "probe" resulting in a mis-read of the true
OAT...I'm not sure. I installed with gaskets but maybe not well
    enough.

    Good luck,
