    WIIILLLLMMMMAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

Well tonight we are in Columbia SC, having left Boynton Beach this afternoon. A week in Generator City without a hot shower was too much for Holly.

The worst part is that we are driving to Asheville , yep driving. Sadly N1476L was a total loss in the storm as she was down for annual and could not be flown out. Lantana airport is a shambles. I saw only one mouse on the field that appeared to be unscathed - I think it belongs to Bill Paccinos (Sp?). We did get quite a few photos of the destruction that we can post on BAC site if there is any interest.

The best part - besides the hot shower and actual electricity (without the generator noise) is that everyone is ok. Now we just have to wrangle with the insurance company for our check and find another good mouse within the next few weeks.

Sorry to hear about your bird. I flew 8886M to SW
Houston from Galveston for Rita. It is ok, but there
was a big piece of the hangar skylight where it is
    normally parked.

The important thing is that you and Holly are
allright. This was a real humdinger of a hurricane
season. I hope that it is over!

    WIIILLLLMMMMAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

Ed, best of luck on your Mouse hunt. Heck of a way to do an upgrade.

We have friends on Willis Airpark in Boynton Beach, right next to 441. Of
the four hurricanes they have ridden out, this last one was by far the
worst, despite coming from the West. There just isn't anything over the
Everglades to slow one down. Two hangars (and the planes inside) were
complete losses, in their flying community. Their hangar was damaged, but
their Bonanza appears to be unharmed. Bill told me last night that, of the
tall high voltage transmission lines that run next to 441, roughly every
other tower is snapped off. The time estimate for power restoration is
"late November". I can't help but think that if the FL power companies
don't come up with a way to get all of the utilities underground, the next
15-20 years are going to be a lot noisier. Not to mention every other
household having large generators with mucho gallons of gas stored around
the house. Summer weather is supposed to get even worse, and the cycle is
supposed to last for a long time to come. I sure don't miss it.

    Ed:
It was my plane you saw at Lantana (LNA). From the distance it may have
appeared undamaged to you but when you get close up you
will see that the right wing leading edge is crumppled just about the
complete span. Also, the right wing tip is crushed, the windshield is
damaged, the engine cowling shows strain, and the horizontal stabilator
trim tab is damaged. Mine was in a hanger at Luhtec undergoing
an annual inspection (the hanger itself is gone). As a minimum I will
need a right wing (did your right wing survived ?).
