    External Power Project.

I have been trying for several months to find an External Power Outlet for
my Sundowner. It appears that the lucky ones with an outlet may soon have a
source for the plug but those without the outlet are out of luck. I
understand that the original vender for these outlets and plugs is out of
business. This is now an orphaned part. I understand that there is a
process where the FAA will approve a Substitute Part in these cases. The
Piper External Power Plug is a real close match for the Beech part. It is
also readily available and "Cheap". I suggest that this would be a good
project for the BAC. We have all the experienced people in dealing with the
FAA that might be able to get a blanket approval to substitute the Piper
outlet for the Beech. I am sure that in the future this type of parts
problem will come up often. I purchased Donuts for AEC but it would be
better if we can find already available parts we can directly substitute for
unavailable Beech Parts. I would be happy to help this effort in any way
but to be honest I don't know where to start.

    Hello group,

I too need an outlet for my Mouse. I would support such an effort.

    External Power Project.

I can see two routes here...

One - one could attempt to produce the parts identical to the original
beechcraft parts either under a PMA or as owner produced parts and then
the installation could be done with a logbook entry.

However, it seems like developing an STC using existing components from
another manufacturer (like the Piper or Cessna parts) would be better,
less work and expense overall - plus it would give us a plug that works
with available set of cords and adapters from 3rd parties.

I would think that if the electrical interconnection were functionally
identical and structural mounting of the plug were similar enough to the
original beech mounting and the only variation was of the plug form
factor the STC would be relatively easy.
