Tach and Cable 1966 A23-24 Fixed Pitch prop

A buddy of mine just took the plane over to Vancouver Island and
apparently after about 15 minutes of some rather interesting readings on
the tach (Swinging about 300 in each direction), the needle finally
broke off. Engine ran smooth the entire time, no change at all.

The tach is old and probably just had too much time on it. 40 years is
    pretty good.

So, I need to get a new tach, and cable and fittings, and in about 3
days. The engine is a io-360-A1A and it is a fixed pitch prop. Spruce
lists a Part # of D1-112-5124 for a Mitchell, is this correct?

Tach and Cable 1966 A23-24 Fixed Pitch prop

If you get a non-Beech tach, you'll need to make sure that the face gets
re-ranged. There are shops that can overhaul your tach, at a cost far lower
than new. You can search BAC for 'tach cable', to get the correct
replacement info. The cable is the most likely culprit in this (whipping),
though it could also have been worn tach bearings. An electronic
replacement tach is also an option, though somewhat more expensive. The
electronic ones do have some advantages, including having it set to your
    current tach time number.
