    XM WX Antennae Magnet

Just purchased and updated xm wx on garmin 396. The wx antennae has a large magnet on the bottom. Has anyone removed the magnet to use on dash instead of placing on roof:

    XM WX Antennae Magnet

I wouldn't put that magnet on the roof. I can only imagine the
scratching it would do. I have mine mounted on the glare shield toward
the window where it's out of the way. I've also seen a custom made
bracket that is tucked into the headliner. The magnet sits on top,
right at the junction of headliner and window. It's out of the way, and
    so is the cord.

Enjoy the 396. It's a really nice instrument.

    regards,

*** And it wouldn't stick anyway. Aluminum.

*** I would tear the magnet off. Wouldn't want a magnet anywhere near
the instrument panel or compass. That's what I did with a timer. Tore
the magnet off and replaced it with a strip of velcro.

Now that you mention it, I remember how strong that magnet really is.
It would throw my compass off if the hockey puck were even close.
Fortunately, my compass is right in front of me, so mounting the hockey
puck was easily done one the co-pilot side. If the compass is in the
middle of the glare shield, you could have a problem.

    XM Magnet

When I bought my XM weather system a year ago I did the following. I took the antennae base apart and completely removed the magnet as I didn't want it anywhere near my compass. I then took a piece of velcro and mounted it on the base and it stays exactly where I want it.'
