    What's the scoop?

    Y'all..

Once had a 63 & started to learn about the new fangled more modern looking
models ~ 70 & up. Noticed on those birds that they have a NACA type scoop on
    the pass side'a the cowling.

    What's that scoop for?

    thx,
    jon

    What's the scoop?

    Thx,

What about the Sierra. Not positive but on the front of the Cowl, quite
sure that the later models have a big hole (front..more towards pilot side)..

Early Sierra's don't have em & later models do..

What's that scoop about?..or maybe I should call it a hole (opening?) of
    some kind.

At least on my plane, that's the fresh air inlet for the lower heat/cool
system. If you have heat off, you get air from that scoop (assuming you have
the lower eyeball vents open). If you have heat on, you get air from the
muffler shroud system, which uses a separate outside air inlet.

    What's the scoop?

Early birds didn't need to bother with that fancy NACA opening type stuff..

Open up those forward fresh air ducts & Bingo..fresh air..

    What's the scoop?

The left forward scoop on the nose cowling is the ducting inlet for the oil cooler.

    What's the scoop?

How did the early model Sierra's deal with that?
