Service bulletin on Hartzell propeller hubs HC-SB-61-269

Hello fellow Sierra owners... Are any of you familiar with the above
service bulletin on the Hartzell hubs?

I sent my prop to a shop for overhaul after 600 hrs and 6 yrs in
service since last overhaul. They are telling me this Service
Bulletin applies to my prop and will cost $2173 for a new hub (which
is at a 40% discount) or Eddy current testing every 100 hrs from now
    until doomesday!

I found this on a website as well:

    Will it become an AD?

    Safety Recommendation 2006-047
It is recommended that the FAA take urgent steps to issue an
Airworthiness Directive making the inspection requirements of
    Hartzell Service Bulletin HC-SB-61-269 mandatory.

    Thx.

    Mark

A couple of things to think about. Service Bulletins are not mandatory, but in this case Hartzell thinks things are serious enough to prod the FAA for an AD (it is already an AD in other countries). If you have a prop separation, you know the consequences and I'm sure would gladly pay any amount of money (if you could). Secondly, You only get the 50% off retail ($1811) until the end of May and it must be done during a prop overhaul. If you you just do the overhaul (~ $1800) and Eddy Current inspection (~ $300) and SB269 becomes an AD; you potentially would have to full retail price for the hub (about $3600 or more) and have the prop overhauled ($1800) again. If you Fly a couple of hundred hours a year it's definately worth going for the new hub.... you would have paid for a new hub in about 3 years doing eddy current inspections twice a year. SB269 no longer applies after the new hub is installed.
