    Expensive Sierra!

Wow! I just saw a '77 Sierra for sale on I-Pilot classifieds for $112K.
That may be Canadian $$ but still...

I'd love to think the value of our planes is going up, up, up!

    -Rick

    Expensive Sierra!

Remember, the less we have tied up in our planes, the
less opportunity cost (Interest paid or lost) we have
on our money. As for the buying and selling price,
they are a wash. We can't have it both ways, and I
always kind of liked it this way. But then again, if
we have to quit flying, for good, and arn't going to
buy another mouse, it would be great to have a price
    surge when selling. My 2cents.

    Expensive Sierra!

Wow, and I thought we paid a lot of money for our 83 Sierra! Currently T-a-P shows 10 Sierras with an average price of $71.1K, which is about what we have in our Sierra. The asking prices range from $51.5 to $95.5. Still, I think the Sierra is an undervalued airplane. There are also 10 Grumman Tigers advertised for an average asking price of $84.8K. Granted, 3 were '90 vintage airplanes, but still, backing out these airplanes the average is $74.7K. The reason I mention the Tiger is, that is what I wanted when I began to shop for airplanes. But after studying the market, I found the Sierra offers everything the Tiger does in performance with more comfort and on less gas. Another thing, older airplanes, in general, are appreciating assets. I don't think that the appreciation will ever offset the total cost of ownership, but all in all not a bad a place to have big chunk of your discressionary income. Especially if it is a useful tool.

    Another 2 cents
