It's molehill time again. If you're using Outlook Express, it's not a great effort to click "Reply All" instead of "Reply" when you want to share your wisdom with the entire group--or am I missing something?

I'm with you on that. I subscribe to a lot of lists, and only a few
of them still require so much work to make the default response,
which is going to be to the entire group 99% of the time.

It's easy for the moderator to change: Management -> Group Settings
    -> Messages -> Posting and Archives -> Edit -> Reply-To

Oops.. almost forgot to change the TO again.

Carl has it exactly right. With most any modern email program one only
need choose who the message is sent to at the time the message is begun by
    selecting "Reply" or "Reply All".

The question to ask one's self is: "Am I replying with information that the
ENTIRE LIST of 1300+ members will find helpful? Or am I responding to an
individual's request or sending a humorous or personal reply?"

If its not a Musketeer specific answer that others may find useful, then
you are sending the message to the person that posted the original message
by choosing "reply to:" and the reply with go directly to the person
    posting the list message.

This allows the list to have a good signal to noise ratio, and yet does not
prevent interesting stories about flying or maintaining a Musketeer series
from being posted to the list and responded to as appropriate. If everyone
would choose the correct "reply to:" when they begin their message, then
this would never be an issue.

A few months ago I had to explain to a list member that his incessant
posting of "me too" and other off topic posting were not wanted. He
misunderstood the purpose of the change in list policy so many years ago,
and by always choosing to respond to the group, even when not appropriate,
his messages exceeded 10% of the monthly list volume BY HIMSELF!

The answer is not to "remember to change the reply to:", its to decide on a
message by message basis if this reply will have wide appeal among the
    1300+ list members.

As an added benefit, new threads are more likely to be named appropriately
in the Subject line, making it easier to read the messages of interest and
skip the others. Letting every message reply to the list fosters long
chains of chatter that almost immediately drift away from the Subject
title, thus making it necessary for list members to read all the messages,
or to miss topics of interest to them.

Thanks to all that have made MM a success over the last 7 years. Keep up
the good work. I assure you that neither James Fairhurst -- the list
founder, or myself as the moderator for the last 6+ years, dreamed that the
list would grow to the point that it has from our humble beginnings of less
    than 50 members.
