    Strobe Pulses

Was wondering if an individual strobe out of a plne can be engaged and
tested with an external 12V power supply. Or, are they engineered in a
manner that requires the entire system to be powered at one time
    through their own complete circuitry.

There are several types of strobes. Some are self contained with the power
supply mounted to the flash tube. These are commonly seen in the rotating
beacon replacements. Some have a power supply next to the flash tube, like
some wing tip mounted strobes, and some have a fuselage mounted power
supply with special shielded wiring from the power supply to the wing tips
    or tail.

Only the integrated strobe and power supply can be removed and tested as a
unit. The types with the bulb and power supply separately will have to
have both parts removed and tested on the bench.
