    Ted Transponder antenna versus Ka-60 fin antenna

    I am currently using a ka-60 fin antenna with my kt76a transponder It
    needs replacing since I do not have DME is the TED transponder antenna
    as effective as the ka-60 its 1/5 the price thanks all for your advice

    the transponder antenna? Yes, the TED antenna should be just as
    effective as the fin for transponder use - the fin antenna is more
    wideband, which is important for DME - because DME has a bunch of
    channels separated by frequency. In fact, the probe antenna may be
    MORE efficient for transponder use than the fin, because there are
    no passive "widebanding" elements in it to soak up power.

    Make sure you have the right antenna - the transponder antenna is
    typically located as far as it can get from the actual transponder,
    and the DME antenna far from the DME. This is to minimize
    interference effects.
