"The Last Flight Of Scott Crossfield"

Go to your library and get ESQUIRE MAGAZINE/November2006 for a
touching article on Scott Crossfield and his last flight across the
    Alabama-
Georgia state line. Beautifully written and a tribute to a wonderful man.

When I picked Scott up at the airport here in CVG (2003- 36th Annual
Congress on Aviation and Space Exploration) he was grumbling about his
C210's hydraulic problems and the landing gear. He loved his plane but
was still grumbling about his old friend on its final day.

"Before there were astronauts, there was Crossfield. Throughout the
modern history of aviation, there was always Crossfield. Until Now."

I note that Scott accelerated his departure that day because of a
    presidential TFR.

I had flown into KSAV a few days earlier and was in Savannah that day. Nastiest looking thunderstorm I've seen in a while.
