    Northeast "Instant" Fly-In, Jan 27

    OK, Nor'easters,
On Sat Jan 27th (Sunday if bad weather) I am going down to Greenwood Lake Airport (4N1) in W.Milford, NJ.
Officially my trip is to gather some more material for an article in BAC.
But why not just make it a party?!? With planned arrival around 10:00, come on down and join me. There is a restaurant on field so eats are no problem.
There are two flight schools on the field, both of interest.
One is housed in, honest, a Lockheed Constellation (The Star of The Azores to be precise.) Would have been real interesting to see her come in to that field!!
The other school specializes in multi-engine. And is equipped with a gaggle of Beech Duchesses. What could be more BAC-like that that?
Anyone from BAC, MM, even the Cessna Pilots Assoc is welcome. Call me or email me for further information. (My numbers are on the BAC calendar if you need them.)
Come, meet more of the Beech family, tell lies, enjoy the flight!
    Be there, Aloha!
    Steve

Ah, Jon, we are victims of national paranoia. We BOTH need passports to do such a thing.

But I do want to have some event up by the lakes later this year...bet we could carry it off then!

(Picture some TSA type, trenchcoat and all, asking: "Are your papers in order?!?)

    Steve,

Just missed you one weekend at MGJ. You had just started to taxi from the ramp when I drove up.

a Lockheed Constellation (The Star of The Azores to be precise.) Would have been real interesting to see her come in to that field!!
If you stop in at Greenwood Lake Flight Training (http://www.fly4n1.com/about.php) they'll be happy to show you the video of the Connie's landing at the then 2700' runway! Joe Morra is the owner of the flight school and a really great guy.

The Dutchesses (I think 2) belong to Wagner Airways who do multi-engine training at 4N1. They have a nice shot of rwy 6 on their website - http://www.wagnerairways.com/homepage.htm - you can almost see the cliff at the end of the runway!

The restaurant on the field is aptly named the Crosswinds Cafe. There can be quite a bit of wind shear on final to 24 because of the cliff at the end of the runway. Super AWOS is available with 3 clicks of the mike on the CTAF. I did a simulated power off here on my checkride - now that was exciting.

I'll definetly plan to be there but don't think the 23 nm from my base at KMGJ will make me a threat in the quest for the Presiden's Trophy. It's actually quicker to drive there from home but a lot less fun.

We had a 'Super' Connie (there's a diff!!) hanging around for years!

Last I saw, she was a restaurant ..one engine displayed outdoors..for years!!..
    ..
Nevertheless, was awakened by a Connie T/O at Osh..when I was there

    ...a few years back.

Ah, timing is everything. Hope to see you on the 27th.

Yeah, I met the Morras last year. I ran into a wall of clouds and rain enroute to the Martinsburg Fly-In and fell back to regroup. Picked 4N1 at random. Joe located the last remaining bed in the area (nice B&B), drove me via the scenic route and picked me up in the morning. Great folks.

Windshear on final? I thought it was because I did the big "WTF" when I saw the Connie! It was actually pretty calm the day I dropped in. Good advice for anyone coming next week. And about the "Super AWOS" many people have never encounterd that system.

Alas, being an "Instant" (less than two weeks notice" Fly-In, PT points don't count. But I have a Director's Stipend and I know how to use it!

    Steve,

What time will your fly-in begin? What time will you leave BAF? I may be able to join you enroute... now that my favorite football team will not be on my mind all weekend.

Sheesh! That was fast; the game just ended!
I'm leaving BAF at 0800 to arrive before 1000. I'd be honored to have you on my wing.
