    CFI Rating Question

I would like to get a single engine CFI rating. I went to the local
flight school to inquire, but I couldn't get an answer. Maybe the
problem is that, I only have Private pilot Instrument privileges on a
single engine aircraft. I have an ATP license for Multiengine and my
Commercial license used to be for Multiengine as well. Can I get a
single ATP, even though I don't have a single Commercial? Can I use
my Sundowner for my single ATP & CFI training and checkride? I have
never seen a PTS for a single ATP. What maneuvers do I have to
demonstrate? Do ATPs need a CFI rating?
    Thanks,
    Oz

    CFI Rating Question

One problem that comes to mind using your Sundowner, in terms of
training & checkride, is the spin part.

    CFI Rating Question

    OZ
You can easily get a single engine Commercial in your Sundowner. I
just finished an airline captain who didnt have a single engine rating
in the Sundowner. He got a commercial single engine added to his ATP
multi. The problem for the CFI is you will need a complex aircraft for
the checkride. I recently sent two applicants for CFI and both used a
Cessna 150 for the checkride and rented the examiners Bonanza for the
complex part. The Sundowner also wont work for the spin requirement.
However you can get that done easily in a Cessna 150 or a Citabria. We
use our Taylorcraft for spins and that works out OK.

    CFI Rating Question

    Hi Oz,
Pick up a copy of the FAR's and they will describe the requirements for
each license. I believe an ATP is an ATP. If you have one, you do not
need another one (and an ATP doesn't do much for you in a Musketeer). If
you want a CFI , you will need to rent a high performance aircraft for
the landings and emergency procedures. You can take the rest of the
checkride in the mouse. Sounds like all you need is the CFI. Pick up a
copy of the PTS for that and you should have a handle on what is
    required.

Actually, you don't have to do spins on the check ride. Just an endorsement
that you are competent in spin recovery.

    CFI Rating Question

    Hey, Hey, Hey!
Easy on the pontoon comments. Just because you folks north of the border
put floats on everything. DeHavilland, Cessna, Airbus (yeah, and I saw
the attach points on your mini van in Dayton).

You don't need to get the ATP prior to getting the CFI license, just
the Commercial. In order to get the commercial license, you do need a
complex a/c for part of the check ride. You may use your Sundowner but
would still have to use a complex a/c for the rest of the check ride.

What you can do is get your muti instructor rating first (if you have
access to a twin) and then add on the cfi single. This (I've been
told) will make for an easier check ride.
