be at Sulphur Springs on May 5 (kSLR)

In case you don't follow the new over on
www.beechaeroclub.org, we are planning a fly in over
to Sulphur Springs Texas on May 5th. Lunch will be
across the street at the Red Barn at about 1:00, but
before that, there will be a tour of Legend Aircraft.
And, in case you've just crawled out from under one of
those old airplane tires that gets thown over the
tiedown rings and you don't know who Legend Aircraft
is, well... Legend makes the light sport 'Legend
CUB'. You can find out more about Legend at
    www.legend.aero

Plan on Arriving BEFORE 11:00 AM and departing between
3 and 5 depending on how far you have to go to get
back home. There is NO charge to attend the event,
but BAC isn't picking up the cost of lunch either, so
bring some bucks to spend over at the Red Barn! We
would enjoy meeting any of you who can attend. If
there is bad weather, don't take any chances.

    Jay Bruce

    Re: SLR fly in

I am interested in flying to Sulpher Springs, but need more information. We will be coming from GCK Garden City, KS. It should be a 3 hour trip. Is there a schedule of events. Should the WX look iffy for Sat am we might come down Friday, what are the motel availabilities? Local transportation? Just need a little help and more info please.

    Gary,

I think the plant tour is scheduled to begin at 11 followed by Lunch at the Red Barn. Don't know about motels other than what I saw on AirNav.com.

Jay may know more or be able to find out from the Legend folk.

Gary, Here is the schedule from the original post.

South Central BAC is pleased to announce our first fly in of 2007. Come on out to Sulphur Springs on MAY 5, where we are scheduled for a tour of the Legend Cubs and Lunch at the RED BARN.

Officially we are starting at 11:00 am, Lunch at 1 or 1:30 and departures between 3 and 4.

Bill Franklin is planning on coming down from Rapid City Friday and he and I are leaving in our birds Saturday morning from 3AU. Hope to see you down there.

Here is hotel info from the AOPA website
    LODGING:
    Comfort Suites 903/438-0918
    Days Inn 903/885-0562
    Trail Dust Inn/Best Western 903/885-7515

Jim from Legend is going to send me some more hotel information. I don't have it yet. IF YOU DO COME DOWN ON FRIDAY NIGHT... Jim said that the Red Barn does all you can eat fried catfish on Fridays. The airport is supposed to have a courtesy car also.

We are not going to make a weather call either way. I have developed the opinion that it is best to leave that up to each individual. We DO NOT want any one taking chances with safety, but we have found in the past that on a bad weather day, we still might have one or two IFR planes attend and several people to drive in.

There is not a whole lot 'formally' on the schedule. From what I have seen about the Legend place in the past, and have been reading about them lately, they will keep us pretty busy on the tour. Plus from our own members, there is usually some really experinced and talented flight instructors and/or mechanics to talk shop with.

If I can get more definite information on hotels, I'll post it here.

I'm still planning on being there and it looks like the WX MIGHT cooperate.

I spoke to Steve Glaviano this am. He's planning to make it to SLR in his new (to him) Sierra. Sounds like a nice bird. I'm anxious to see it.

Bill Franklin is not going to be able to make it and I will have to do some looking tomorrow myself. There is a front with some nasty weather that is heading this way and depending on timing may trap me in Texas, or southern Oklahoma. Sunday is looking even worse up this way. I hate to miss it so I will be watching weather closely.

I don't know what it is with all these fronts showing their backsides lately...

    Is it still on?

Tomorrow is looking like a red letter IFR day in the morning and wind in the afternoon. I am still considering it and will make my final decision tomorrow.........how many others are still planning on attending?
