Plane has a newly rebuilt starter. Plane started fine. Now the starter will
not engage just a hum at the relay, I think. Whats the best way to trouble
shoot this and take care of this problem? Also need the bolt for the front
strut after replacing the donuts. Not sure which one if there is , but it
sounds like the one that should be replaced anyway, from reading past emails.
    Any help.
    Thanks
    Walt Goodale

Sounds like the solenoid is not picking up or you might have a bad spot on your gear ring. I had the same situation and had to replace the gear ring. If you get it started after you shut it down just bump the key switch and that will engage the starter for the next time you plan to fly....just unitl you get the problem fixed.

Walter, go the Sky-tec for this troubleshooting guide:
    http://www.skytecair.com/Troubleshooting.htm
This is a fantastic troubleshooting guide regardless of the brand of
starter. I keep a copy in my toolbox, in fact I've printed it and
passed it out to my fellow A&P mechanics at work. When applying power,
be sure to have the wire disconnected from the starter for safety reasons.
