    1982L is down

Well. the good news is, no one is hurt.

the bad news is, my parther stuffed my sundowner, N1982L, nose first into the runway at South County Airport in Morgan Hill CA (E16) on Saturday 5/14. I haven't seen the pics yet, but I understand that I have 2/3 of the number of wheels required to taxi. Anyone have stories to tell, good, bad or otherwise, regarding repairs following loss of a nosegear, prop bending, etc.?

    1982L is down

    Hi Steve,
You have our sympathies. We've been through the same thing with N1958L,
albeit not quite as bad. As you say, at least no one was hurt.
We kept our nosewheel; and our engine proved to be OK upon teardown and
inspection. The prop was, of course, replaced. But we had to settle for
a refurbished one. Hint: Don't just trust the Yellow Tag on it. Have it
really checked out before you accept that prop. The second Sensenich
shop we talked to was quite embarassed that someone else with the name
had turned out the one we are currently stuck with. The refurbishing
shop is now gone, so I guess that is good.
But the good news was that this is such a common occurence (shouldn't
be, though) that the insurance company will probably just sigh and write
a check. (Maybe we were just lucky. That's what happened to us.)
The worst outcome, to my mind, and please understand that my major
interaction with the insurance industry was limited to selling
Prudential Life for a couple years, is that they decide that the cost is
too close to the hull value. Then they might "total" her.
But...I am far from the most authoritative voice you should listen to.
    Here's hoping things work out.

    1982L is down

Well, it looks like this will be the gift that keeps on giving...

I just talked to the kind folks at 2Genes Aviation at South County. They think 82L is a gonner. Besides the prop and the gear, the motor mount is toast, as is the cowling and the belly of the aircraft, apparently due to both abrasion and a brief fire.
