am wanting to install one in my 65' A23.. Can anyone give me some
advise as to what to go with. I am also in the market for a used one at
that. if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be
    greatful.

    Thanks again

    Autopilot

    Good morning Tim,

In checking, look at the S-Tec, not Century. We bought a Century autopilot
with the intentions of putting it into our A23-24. Found out that Century
wanted $2000 for the STC. Solved that problem through the BAC. However,
the installation also would have required a cabling modification with a kit
that was no longer available or was outrageously priced (can't remember
which). This was the deal killer and we sent the Century autopilot back.

    Autopilot

I had an STEC-30 w/Alt Hold in my C-23, worked fairly well. It's pretty
much a light duty autopilot, great on a calm day but even during mild chop I
had to turn it off as it couldn't keep up.

I had a Brittian unit installed in my 74 Sport 150. These autopilots are reasonably priced and were designed in joint effort between Beech and Brittian. Many of the mounting holes were already in the aircraft prior to installation. I started with the basic wing leveler and added the Accutrack 2 last year. I am having the unit coupled to a Garmin GPS in about a month.

There are a few other members who have had the Brittians installed. Maybe we can get some more comments from them. I am very pleased with the operation of the unit and the cost is hard to beat.

    Tim,

I have an S-Tec 40 that is being upgraded RIGHT NOW to a model 50 w/alt hold.

Tim, if you aren't already a member I would recomend joining The Beech Aero Club.

I would have probably checked into the Britian autopilot if I didn't already have the S-Tec 40 in my C23, less expesive, with the Beach Aero Club discount, and great reviews on the BAC website.

Evidently its easy/cheap to have installed by any qualified A&P and reports say that it works well.

I loved my -40 with a heading bug, coupled to the VOR OBS and loran, and I can't wait to try the -50 with altitude hold coupled to the approach certified GX-50 GPS.

    Steve,

I have an S-Tec 40 in my A-23-24. Would be interested in knowing how your upgrade works out.

    Thanks,

    Tim Estes,

I have a century I in my sierra, and am thinking about replacing it. It tracks on GPS, and VOR, but does not have alt hold. It would be a low cost deal for you if you have any interest.

    Dan,

Is your Century 1 the turn coordinator type? I have a Century 1 in my sport that is troublesome at best. It has the Turn/bank type instrument and I'm looking for a working turn coordinator type at a decent price. If Tim doesn't want it, we need to talk. Thanks.

    Jeff,

Mine is the turn coordinator type. I installed one of these in my sundowner doing all the work myself, 20 some yrs ago, and don't remember it being difficult at all.(of course I was younger then) I still have all the paperwork, drawings, etc., if anyone is interested in the whole pkg. Jeff, have you swapped out your instrument with a known good one? That might tell you if the problem is in it or the servo.

    Dan
