    Nofth Central Fly In Recap

Well the North Central Fly In at Rapid City is in the books. Yes,
Bo Boggs is hanging around and seeing the hills with his wife but
everyone else has departed and KRAP is almost back to normal.
Yesterday, 18 June 05 at about 1212 MDT Musketeers seemed to slow
even the airlines down when the radio call to ground whet
out, "Rapid Ground, N2309Q, Musketeer Lead, Flight of 9 request
    Taxi
to runway 14 for Southwest Departure." For the next 12 minutes
Musketeers and one Stinson owned the field. There were Musketeers
west of KRAP to Mt Rushmore to Crazy Horse Monument for the next
hour. With that many airplanes strung out coming back to Rapid
City, even Northwest Airlines was surprised when he was number six
behind five Sundowners coming in for landing.
The only hitch in the flight was when my Musketeer would not start,
Bendix gear not engaging stuck down, but Dan Kirby walked over took
a look and after some conversation propped me off.
After landing most came over for talk and food. The Alaska team
went to eat at the airport and departed wanting to put some time and
miles behind them. Robert Weissinger and his copilot Dan left after
    Mt Rushmore and turned south.
Most musketeers left in the late afternoon for home or partway
there. I have not heard from them yet but all the plains were flying
well on Saturday. Final recap, 8 Musketeers, 11 members, and 1
Stinson at the Fly In, (five families) and everyone had fun and no
    dings in the planes.
Plans for next year have already started, save time on the calendar
middle of June to "Come Fly the Devil," North Central Fly In.

    Nofth Central Fly In Recap

    Bill,

FLIGHT OF 9! I love it!
Congratulations to North Central, Bill Franklin, and all the
participants on a great Fly-In. Hope all attending will check in with
Bill so he can sleep tonight.

Bill, this sounds like something others may wish to emulate (emulate,
you know, act like a large flightless bird ). Could you take a few
moments to write down your thoughts on what made the Rushmore tour
workable...and what, in hindsight, you would change? File it on both MM
and BAC for the rest of us.

    Nofth Central Fly In Recap

What a great time! ... mountain flying... flight of nine around Mt.
Rushmore... hot & humid... great barbecue at Bill's... large cake with our
fly-in poster on it... great stories from our host... great time was had by
all... did I mention hot!! Brian and I made it back from Denver just
fine - perfect flight/weather both directions.

This was my first flight of more than two and my only afterthought was our
separation might have been a little less. Perhaps a half-mile would have
worked until Sheridan Lake, and kept the group a bit closer together. Those
with more experience in group flights would know better, but just a thought.

Glad the Stinson landed safely!! Hard to see with a windshield covered in
    oil!

Thanks, Bill for everything. Looking forward to next year, Flying the Devil!
