    Cross Country Travel

After a long 8 weeks we will have our plane back in the air with a
zero time engine. I've talked my wife into taking the month of August
off to travel across the country. We will fly from Phoenix to Tampa
Florida, Tampa to Gatlinburg Tennessee, Gatlinburg to Chicago
Illinois, Chicago to Las Vegas Nevada then back home to Phoenix. The
entire trip will be flown with an IFR flight plan. What I need is a
convenient way to have all the necessary charts, sectional, terminal
and low altitude enroute, approach plates and airport directories
without having to carry 50 lbs. of paper work. Any suggestions?

    Larry:
AOPA provides all its members with flight planning services. All you
have to tell them is 'where you want to go'. Of course, you have to be
    a
    member.

I thank everyone for their suggestions, I like the Air Chart system
for the enroute portion, now I need to find a good alternative to
all the approach plates. I do not have a laptop so that option is
out. This will be my biggest undertaking yet, I've only been
licensed for 2 years, I do have my instrument rating and 400 hours
in the log book. Any and all suggestions for this type of trip is
appreciated. Mike, I thank you for your invitation and we will give
you a shout when we are ready to leave Tampa. As a new pilot it is
great to have the help and tap into the experience of all you guys
that are far wiser than I.
