Thread: What is the "approved" or recommended way of splicing wire?

What is the "approved" or recommended way of splicing wire?

I have to replace my compass. I will need to splice the wires going to
    it.

What's the "approved" or recommended way of splicing the wires?

Do they have to be soldered?

Can I use crimp on connectors? If so is there an "aircraft type" I should
    use?

Or do I just twist them together and tape them with electrical tape?

Cloyd, my compass wires have 'interlocking crimp
connectors'. So as whenever you need to remove the
glare shield, all you do is take off the compass and
untape the connectors and then take the connectors
apart. Very easy to remove the compass then.
