Fuel sender problems, read the bac stuff but few more questi

Sounds like you have both of the typical problems; high-resistance grounds (possibly at both senders and panel), and out-of tolerance senders and gauges. The senders are somewhat time consuming to access, but not particularly difficult. You'll need some extra AN525 washer-head screws to replace bad screws that you encounter.

Do a BAC Search on "erratic indications", "fuel gauges", and "cluster instruments", all without the quotes, and read those postings. Then select the Musketeer Mail archive on BAC, check the lower search field (along with the upper), and key in "fuel sender" without the quotes. If you still have questions, send an update.

The prior owner of my Sundowner installed a EI fuel flow meter
because he apparently didn't want to deal with the inop fuel
gauges. Althought the fuel flow meter is fantastic and very
accurate I know the real limitations and the fact that I'm basically
    illegal every time I fly.

Both gauges read around 1/4 to 1/3 full all the time, and sometimes
the right gauge spikes to past full. I'm hoping it's a grounding
issue at the sender mounting plate but am waiting till next annual
to get at it and check it out.

To those who might have been here.. is this the probable cause? THe
reason I ask is I occasionally see new/old stock beech fuel sender
units for sale but understand that it is a bear getting to all the
mounting screws with the wing on. Is this also reasonably
accurate? Might be nice to have a pair of these ready to go if the
    grounding tests don't fix it.

    Thanks for any help.

    Kerry,
I would start with the connections on the guages themselves. Make sure you
have a tight connection and a good ground. Hopefully, that will solve your
    problem.

    Kerry,

I had the same problems on my sundowner and sierra,
and it was a bad intermittent ground on the subpanel
itself. Hard to find, easy to fix.

    Good luck,

    Dan
