    Door Seals, Sierra

We would like any information on replacing the door seals in a Sierra.
Ours are (surprise) old and cracked and we get darned cold in the
    winter.

    Door Seals, Sierra

I'm working with Bill Howard to do a little research on the main door seals right now. Bill is going to try some of the 5/8" quarter-round material from Plane Plastics. I don't know whether it is the same stuff, but Brown Aircraft in Jax, FL used to manufacture this stuff for most of the resellers (Chief, Aircraft Spruce, etc.). I tried what Brown was making, and it would not work. It was too wide and dense to let the door close properly. Tried a few others too, but always wound up back with the factory seals.

Frankly, as long as it remains at its present price of $63 per door, the Beech price isn't too terribly out of line. Custom seals from Aircraft Spruce, for Pipers and Cessnas, run about $50 per door. The generic seal material runs around $2 per foot, and seldom fits properly.

The special seal for the large Sierra baggage door is another matter altogether. Its price of $677 is even worse than the ridiculous $550 price on the H2532-13 door handles. I was buying these seals for $30 less than ten years ago. I continue to be staggered by how RAPID parts management can allow extremes like this to occur. Anyone wonder why RAPID has 26 of these in stock, or when they sold their last one? I'm running behind on it, but I hope to work a project on all these seals with an alternative provider.
