    Alieron bushings

I have noticed some play in my ailerons and have traced it back to the rod ends and bushings. Does any have a reliable source other than Rapid for the bushings? Also in examining the rod ends I am able to feel a movement in the ball, while not much this slight movement at both ends transmits to quite a bit of movement in the ailerons. I have a new rod end and seem to sense the same movement in the ball, Any ideas??

Do a BAC search for "Aileron Rod Ends and Bushings", and read the highlighted post partway down the page. It should have everything you need, for both rod ends and bushings. I advise against the Beech bushings. While their Bonanza bushings seem to be properly sized, most of those I have ordered for our Aero Center planes have been all screwed up. A custom bushing enables a perfect fit anyway.

The only rod ends that I have consistently found to be free of lost motion when new, are the Heim brand. On other brands I have seen, some are tight when new, while others are loose (in the same type, size, and brand). While it doesn't matter in many applications, in my opinion only the Heims should be used in the flight control systems, to help minimize the stack-up of play.

There are days when I wonder whether all that effort to populate the BAC site with all this info did much good. A lot of people seem to be having trouble doing valid searches. I do the same search as I describe, and get good hits. I always test a search before I suggest it. I do know that the BAC site search does not work like many other more common ones do. You can't use quotes, for example, unless you are actually searching for something with quotes in it.
