BAC to Hudson Bay (Polar Bear Provincial Park)

If all goes as planned, two BAC Sundowners will fly to Polar Bear Provincial Park in Ontario this August. Brian Foote and Bob Schmidt (me) from the BAC to Alaska group, Brian’s son and one of my Sundowner partners are planning to leave August 3rd and arrive in Peawanuck, Ontario, just outside Polar Bear Provincial Park on August 4th. We have a fly-out fishing/polar bear watching trip scheduled August 5th through the 7th. Depending on the fuel situation, we will try to push on to Churchill, Manitoba, the ‘Polar Bear Capitol of the World’ before returning home.Fuel is an issue. The closest fuel is in Moosonee, 282NM from Peawanuck. Fuel in Peawanuck has to be flown in – a 55 gallon drum goes for $994.50 with air freight charges! We are looking at taking 12 gallons in each airplane from Moosonee, but we’ll see.

We will be staying in tepees in the Park as it is a wilderness area.

If we make it to Churchill, there is a tour operator that offers an opportunity to go snorkeling with Beluga whales, which would be pretty neat.

Thank you for adding to the resources available for your Fellow BAC Members.
